novelty-lip-smackersIt looks like the novelty flavors are being released one or two at a time, so I’ll review them as they come out.

To get right to it, I love these two. Especially Orange Juice!

As much as I like Orange Pop, I was worried this might be a redo. But worry not, it’s a perfect interpretation of the yummy breakfast juice, right down to the tang of the real stuff. It goes on smooooth, the scent is strong, and the theme is cute. A+

blueberry-pancake-lip-smacker

Blueberry Pancake is almost enough to hold me over for the original Blueberry. Don’t get me wrong, they’re definitely different; Blueberry is strong and tart, while the pancake version is less so, but you could say they’re in the same family of scents 😀

Actually, I think I get a blueberry shortcake vibe from this one. Can anyone confirm if this is the same or not as Blueberry Muffin?

I like the purple tube and dark blue balm, too:

These (as well as the other novelties coming out) are reminiscent of the 90’s – mid 2000’s flavors. Perfect nostalgia fix.

1998-christmasHope everyone is having/had a great holiday!

I thought it was time to dig out a set that I’m sure a lot of people have heavy nostalgia about; the 1998 Christmas set!

It was old-school perfection, right? Charms, chains, and that awesome, unbridled cosmic glitter. Even the caps had a light dusting of shimmer 😀

On left from top to bottom there is Cranberry, the lovely Golden Pear, and Grape Gum Drop. On right, Sugar Plum, Merry Berry, and the yummy Candy Cane formula that eludes their similar scents today.

I was always a bit partial to Golden Pear, though.

I know we were all pretty excited to see the Cinnamon Sugar party pack get some early love on the new web-store, and I’ve been meaning to review the set for a few days now.

new-coconut-cakeI’m going to go in order, starting with Coconut Cake. I’ve always loved this flavor (it’s more coconut than cake!) and this re-release stays true to its formula. It works.

Here’s the whole family, excluding the vintage biggy Piece-a-Cake which kicked off this tropical tradition:

cinnamon-sugar-reviewThe legacy of our favorite Cinnamon Sugar lives on. Or does it? It seems heavier and different from what I remember, with none of the sugary sweetness to balance it.

Sure, I do pick up on notes of cinnamon which makes the name technically correct, but those of us begging for its return undoubtedly wanted the true-to-heart 90s formula. Unfortunately this should have probably been released under a different name entirely. Maybe Cinnamon Toast?

cherry-cobbler-2013

Cherry Cobbler is always a decent scent in my book.

caramel-corn-2013

Caramel Corn is also pretty good, and a bit different from other attempts in the past. An all around solidly sweet popcorn flavor.

grape-jelly-2013

Unexpectedly, Grape Jelly is one of the standout flavors in the set for me.  It’s everything the 90’s GJ was, and I love it today as much as I did then.

Sprinkle Donut will probably be a hit with the right person. I’m never a good judge of these kinds of smackers; it falls under Sprinkle Cookie for me 😛

Last in the pack is Sour Apple, a good interpretation of its name. The sour is there but it isn’t overwhelming. For me, this and Grape Jelly are the stars of the show.

Then there is Ice Cream Sandwich, another early surprise! I definitely pick up its namesake, though perhaps leaning slightly more toward cookie.

Overall it’s an alright set, the excitement of which is dampened by the redone Cin Sug. With that out of mind, the quality of the balms themselves are as good as usual.

What do you guys think?

I’ve been wanting to post a few older Holiday sets, starting with a very early 90’s collection featuring the original Cherry, Pina Colada, Blueberry, and Bubble Gum.

lip-smacker-reindeer

This little reindeer stocking was sold with many different flavors (e.g. Grape, Watermelon, Luscious Lemon etc.), letting you choose which set you liked the most. I suppose having fewer flavors in general meant they did things a bit different back then 😛

Cute little Christmas-y string:

‘How to Wear’ on the back made me smile. We totally need to bring back the ponytail-smacker:

Miniaturized anything is too cute for words,  so when I saw the cupcake shaped potted glosses I just had to have them!

Has anyone else seen these? I know for sure that at least some Target stores are selling them.
