Lip Smacker - Buttered Popcorn

Lip Smacker – Buttered Popcorn

Buttered Popcorn is one of those weird flavors that represents Lip Smackers for a lot of us. I say this because it’s quite possible I’ve now received more questions about this smacker than any other! It’s salty, extra buttery, and has juuust a hint of popcorn 🙂 You either loved it or hated it.

It could be found until the early 2000’s and then it was rebooted later on for the Snack Time back-to-school set. It had a lot of good flavors like Candy Apple, Berry Jelly Donut, Strawberry Cheesecake, Marshmallow S’more, and Vanilla Cupcake. Everything about this set was cute, cute, cute! Keep a look out because every so often you can find this collection on eBay.

If it’s just popcorn you’re after check out the Halloween set which has Popcorn Ball and a lot of other good ones. You can still find these in Bonne Bell’s web-store here.

I asked about the buttered pocorn lipsmacker awhile ago and was actually looking for the whole snacktime set but the buttered popcorn one in particular. I did find the berry jelly doughnut, marshamallow s’more and strawberry cheesecake but sadly, the buttered pocorn has eluded me. it’s okay though, beacause the others don’t have any kind of a smell to them AT ALL and I don’t think the popcorn one would’ve been any different. I ended up getting a popcorn lipbalm in a different brand. I also asked about a vintage lipsmacker and am very happy to report that I FINALLY got one! I just happened to go on ebay and look and there was a dr. pepper one and I asked the seller if she would skip the bidding process (because I know how sneaky people are on ebay by waiting until it gets down to 5 seconds and outbidding you) and sell it to me and she did! I wanted a flavor that they don’t have anymore but hey, beggers can’t be choosers! I love my vintage dr. pepper smacker!

    • Hi Lindsay I’m so glad you checked in with an update! Congrats on being resourceful and getting that vintage smacker! And hey, I think they have adjusted the Dr. Pepper formula a bit over the years so you have a ‘true original’ even if the flavor itself is still being sold today 🙂

I can vouch for my snack-time buttered popcorn still smelling good but I really think it depends on how/where they are stored, so I’m glad you found a replacement. I have some that are completely scentless like you described, unfortunately!

      • yeah, I agree about how and where the smackers are stored that determines how strong the scent stays over the years. I’ve got quite a few 90’s smackers that still smell like new while some from the 2000’s (like the ones from the snacktime set) have hardly got any smell at all. anyways, I think i’m done searching for vintage smackers for the time being and am just going to focus on the new flavors that bonne bell is coming out with. I was SO happy to see that they brought back sour grapes, a classic flavor from the 70’s! the other flavors in that pack (orange sherbet and pina colda) rock too! I also bought the other “best flavors forever” set with cherry cream soda, root beer float and vanilla malt shake and am excited to see what else they are going to come out with. the one flavor that I would be absolutely ecstatic to see again is starfruit. only time will tell, I guess. i have to say though, that lately bonne bell really has done an amazing job of bringing us new and exciting (and nostalgic) flavors, from funnel cake and snow cone in the lipsmacker brights collection, to sour grapes and vanilla malt shake in the “best flavors forever” collections. i hope they continue on this path!

        I wish I still had mines =(

  5. Yes exactly, I noticed a lot of the 2000s ones were like that. The jewel/birthstone collection lost its scent quickly (in my experience).

This year has been really exciting so far, I’m going to make a post soon on the malt shake set. There’s some pretty amazing flavors in the new Paul Frank party pack that I’ll be posting about too. I would love to see Starfruit again too! And Blueberry would be great.
