lip-smacker-diamond-icingDebuting all the way back in 2000, the Jewel Lips collection is a sparkly classic that, much like the Cosmic collection, is still very sought after today. In total there were twelve different smackers, each adorned with a name and jewel that represented a birthstone.

This Lip Smacker collection is a good example of how important a cute theme is when it’s time to look back and reminisce–though I can’t speak for the formulas on all twelve (since mine are all still in the package) the seven I have extras of have either completely lost their smell or, at most, retain a hint of frosting.

And since the frosty glitter-infused balm can easily be found in its full-scented glory today (such as in the Disney Princess line), I’ll have to assume it’s less the lip balm itself and more the shimmery labels and gem-encrusted caps that keeps fans asking for a re-launch. Myself included!

There are a few flavor standouts though, such as Butterscotch Topaz, Emerald Butter Mint, Turquoise Sprinkle Cake, and until this year, Amethyst Sour Grape. However I don’t have opened versions of these–if you do, please comment and let us know how they have held up over the years! πŸ™‚

Lip Smacker - Buttered Popcorn

Lip Smacker – Buttered Popcorn

Buttered Popcorn is one of those weird flavors that represents Lip Smackers for a lot of us. I say this because it’s quite possible I’ve now received more questions about this smacker than any other! It’s salty, extra buttery, and has juuust a hint of popcorn πŸ™‚ You either loved it or hated it.

It could be found until the early 2000’s and then it was rebooted later on for the Snack Time back-to-school set. It had a lot of good flavors like Candy Apple, Berry Jelly Donut, Strawberry Cheesecake, Marshmallow S’more, and Vanilla Cupcake. Everything about this set was cute, cute, cute! Keep a look out because every so often you can find this collection on eBay.

If it’s just popcorn you’re after check out the Halloween set which has Popcorn Ball and a lot of other good ones. You can still find these in Bonne Bell’s web-store here.

Lip Smacker - Good and Plenty

Lip Smacker – Good and Plenty – bonus vintage Caboodles case!

The vintage Good & Plenty biggy Lip Smacker was yet another iconic brand pairing in smacker history.

If you’re not familiar with them, Good & Plenty’s are a spicy black licorice candy with a hard coating, making it a perfect match for Bonne Bell’s unique line. BB did great with it because its formula still smells strongly like the real thing.good-plenty

Lip Smacker – Good and Plenty

While it saw a few different design changes in its day, it always kept a similar scheme to match the candy box. What I like the most is that even though it’s black licorice flavored the balm is pale pink πŸ˜€ Too cute!

It seems that people either love or hate black licorice. I like it, what about you? Would you buy this flavor if it were available today?

I gave the blog a facelift last night and I think it looks much cuter! Please let me know if it gives anyone any problems.

Lip Smacker - 2000 Cookies

Lip Smacker – 2000 Cookies

I thought we’d say goodbye to 2012 with a look at what is now considered a rather old smacker; 2000 Cookies! It was released in 1999 for the holidays and to celebrate the coming millennium, along with Berry Jelly Donut, Nilla Mint Frost, Candy Confetti, Strawberry Cheesecake, and Sugar Plum.

I’ve gotten a handful of emails about this collection–in particular this flavor–and so I think it’s made a good impression over the years. No wonder, it’s so sparkly and pretty! I miss that. Let’s hope there are more shimmery styles in Lip Smacker’s future πŸ˜€

A quick look at the 25th Anniversary biggy Lip Smacker from 1998. Flavored the always-classic Strawberry, of course!
