Lip Smackers - Valentines 2012

Lip Smacker - Valentine's 2012

Did you realize that BB released Valentine’s Day Lip Smackers again this year? Personally, I had a lot of trouble finding them, and the usual places online were lacking them too.

*2 Cute Cotton Candy
*Wild About U Raspberry
*Pink Lemonade Kisses
*I Love You Strawberry
*B Mine Bubble Gum
*Cherry Hearts

They follow the same theme and style as last year’s, making a super cute matching set of 12 🙂  It looks like they only rolled out in certain locations, so I’m not really sure about what other Valentine’s stuff they released, if any. I do know there’s a key chain that came with the 3-pack tube. Anything else?

The 2011 Valentine’s Day Lip Smackers are your standard flavors repackaged with a holiday themed design and names. I love it when they do best friend smackers, like their 90’s BFF Forever set which you might remember. They just reminds me of the best friend broken-heart necklaces we had as kids, and wondering who would be lucky enough to receive the other half 😀

This set is a must have for Lip Smacker collectors, but casual users should know they can find these flavors in the Originals line. Strawberry seemed to be the popular flavor this time around.

BB also released a 6-piece Valentine’s set in 2012, which I will talk about in my next post.

Vintage Lip Smacker - Jelly Bean

Vintage Lip Smacker - Jelly Bean

Check out this vintage biggy Jelly Bean Lip Smacker by Bonne Bell from the late 70’s.  I just love BB’s old smackers; the colors, the scent, the adorable retro font, …and the fact that it is 4x bigger than smackers today as we know them!

Of course, you can still get biggys in the standard flavors today, as well as in special sets throughout the year (more recently, Disney and Soda biggys come to mind), but for a long time the giant .60 oz lip smackers were the default size.

BB did some really great vintage flavors, some of which have shown up occasionally over the years or became staples and never left. Jelly Bean has shown up in a few forms, such as “Jelly Bean Buzz” (2012 Easter), “Kiwi’s Jelly Bean” (2005 Easter), in the 90’s and so on.  Others however, have disappeared completely.

BB isn’t holding out too much though, we’ve been seeing a few reappearances – most notably Egg Nog which was released as “Chilled Egg Nog” in the 2011 Christmas set. And we’re bound to see more forgotten flavors in 2013 with the 40th anniversary celebration Lip Smackers.

Jelly Bean smells exactly like Easter jellybean candy, it’s very well done.  It’s always impressive that several decade old lip smackers smell brand new. BB must be using magic… if not, then that just attests to their awesome quality 🙂

I’ll be doing more vintage spotlights in the future, so make sure to check back.

Ooo, I love the Starburst Lip Smackers! 😀 These are the really cute square-capped smackers with the retired block-letter logo from the early 2000s. Bonne Bell released different kinds such as California Fruits, Tropical Fruits, Fruit & Creme, and Original Fruits.

Lip Smacker - 2003 Starburst

BB has made several variations of Starburst smackers over the years – minis, Tropical Fruits, faveREDs, Easter, as well as Starburst lip glosses, shampoos/conditioners, shower gels etc. And I can see why, because the scents are really well done. It’s actually a little crazy how good they are.

From left to right:

*Starburst Original Fruits: Orange
*Starburst California Fruits: Plum Passion
*Starburst California Fruits: Strawberry Watermelon
*Starburst California Fruits: Raspberry
*Starburst Tropical Fruits: Mango Melon
*Starburst Tropical Fruits: Kiwi Banana
*Starburst Tropical Fruits: Strawberry Banana
*Starburst Fruit & Creme: Mixed Berries & Creme
*Starburst Fruit & Creme: Orange & Creme
*Starburst Fruit & Creme: Strawberry & Creme

It’s hard to pick but I really like Plum Passion, Kiwi Banana, and Orange & Creme. Unfortunately since they’re older, they’re getting hard to find. So if you come across them, grab them!

Lip Smacker - Skittles Party Pack

Lip Smacker - Skittles Party Pack

Skittles have been a staple of the smacker line for quite some time now, and they’re almost always available with the standard flavors at Target, Walmart, etc. Though they’re not one of my favorites sets (I’m more of a Starburst fan), it’s a really cute pairing that I like a lot.

Super cute packaging 🙂

From left to right:

*Tropical – Strawberry Starfruit
*Tropical – Banana Berry
*Tropical Strawberry Watermelon
*Tropical – Mango Tangelo
*Original – Lime
*Original – Strawberry
*Wild Berry – Raspberry
*Wild Berry – Berry Punch

BB likes to rotate Skittles flavors in and out, so there’s a few more than the usual party pack. Other flavors include: Fresh Mint Freeze, Mango Peach, Lemon, & Wild Berry Strawberry.
