Psst, what’s this?

aristocats-tsum-tsum

Is that what I think it is…?  😮

new-tsum-tsums-2016

It is! The new Tsum Tsum Lip Smackers are here! And they might be the cutest yet.

We have the sweet kitten Marie (from the Aristocats) in Love in Pear-y, a hoppin’ Tigger in Bouncy Bubble Gum,  an adorable Donald in Jelly Quackers, and an all too precious Dumbo in Peanut Butter Shake.

disney-tsum-tsum-lip-smackers

The Aristocats is one of my favorite Disney movies, and Marie’s Love in Pear-y might just be my favorite Tsum Tsum flavor! It’s a lovely floral pear that I wish I could bottle up in a perfume. Truly any cat lover will be over the moon with this balm 🙂

Dumbo’s little hat, trunk, and rosy red cheeks make him too cute for words, but his Peanut Butter Shake flavoring falls a bit short. I don’t pick up on much peanut at all! It’s a bit more of a burnt caramel if anything. A circus peanut flavor would have been a home-run here.

Lip Smacker always does justice to their bubble gum flavors, and Bouncy Bubble Gum pairs perfectly with Tigger. The formula seems a bit more mild initially but then the classic scent comes through.

And if you’ve liked the recent cranberries LS has put out, you’ll enjoy Jelly Quackers. The first note is similar to the burnt scent I picked up in Dumbo’s flavor, then it transitions into cranberry. I do actually like the ‘burnt’ scent, even though I can’t really identify it, it’s a nice change from the cookie filler every other formula had.

stackable-disney-tsum-tsums

Another really fun collection! Keep in mind the Disney balms have never had a ton of scent innovation, it’s usually a re-imagining of past scents. I hope the Tsum Tsum family continues to grow, I’d love to see a princess collection (Ariel please 🙂 )

These will be available in stores this July and on Lipsmacker.com in August!

108 Thoughts on “A Tsum-Tsum Summer

  1. Have you ever had the chance to get the tropical and smoothie chillerz sets? I wanted to know what you think of them!

    THESE ARE SO ADORABLE!!!!!!!!!

These are so cute, especially Dumbo and Marie! And good thing those are the flavors I’m most excited about too 🙂

Yes, those are the two I like as well. But i am curious about the Bubble Gum…If anyone gets it plz let me know if its like the original or the Bubblegum Egg.

  4. Maria on July 10, 2016 at 10:39 PM said:

Omg is Dumbo ADORABLE! I may jus have to get that one and Marie (Obviously) Burnt scent as in “salted pretzel”? Or…? No girl scout Peanut butter at all?

  5. Maria on July 10, 2016 at 10:40 PM said:

Hmmm wonder if Rite Aid has them yet? I jus may take a walk tomorrow to see …

  6. I saw on ebay that there’s party packs with clip on caps and comes with a lanyard! It looks like it’s only for the original and Coke party packs, but I’m just glad that they’re making something like that. I know a lot of fans have been begging them to do that.

  7. hey there, renee (and everybody)! i was just about to talk about the party packs with the keyring caps. i asked smackers themselves today about them but i haven’t heard back. 🙂 wouldn’t it be cool if they brought keyring caps back? i’ve been kind of hoping they would.

    • It seems like they are! I’m so happy! They changed the way the tubes look, and I hope they didn’t change the scents, especially with the original pack. I want them all to smell like they have been for years!

      • That’s the problem Renee. I bought the Coke PP with the lanyard and ALL smell completely different than their intended flavor like before. The Fanta Grape smells better but the rest smell off. I’m assuming it’s the same with the originals because the Watermelon they sent me for the Smoochie Club with the keyhole cap is NOT original Watermelon, it smells like the Minnie Mouse one. Markwins is so inconsistent it’s not even a laughing matter now. We get the throwback feel of the keychain caps but now the actual formulas are screwed. No balance.

        • Why mess with a good thing? Do they think we’ll just sweep that under the rug? By the way, I opened my horchata Lip Smacker, and the smell is soooo light and I don’t detect any cinnamon in it!

        • Maria on August 1, 2016 at 1:49 AM said:

Did u get Strawberry from the Smoochie Club? Is it the same as the Original??

Horchata lip smacker? What assortment is that in?

The Tum Tsums are adorable, but I did think Marie the kitten was Hello Kitty at first.

I loved Bonne Bells Barqs and Fanta Grape. This sucks.

So I was going thru all my extra unused Lip Smackers and I had no idea “Orange Crush” smelled so much like Orange Pop! Anyways does anyone have a spare “Pina Colada, Starburst Cherry, Candy Sprinkles, Cherry Snow Cone, Chocolate Dipped Banana or Sweet Potato Fries? If so let me know I have some we can trade.

Any one else having a hard time finding Lip Smackers in stores? I only see them at Rite Aid and about 10 items total at any given Target. I’d love to try the chillers or the smoothies but I have to order them on line and the cost adds up.

    • I’ve only found the Smoothie Chillerz ones at Kmart and the Tropical ones at Kroger, but I have yet to find the party packs of them.

  12. From WWD:

“When Meghan Trainor’s lips are movin’, they’re slathered in Lip Smacker.

The Markwins-owned lip product specialist is sponsoring the singer’s Untouchable concert tour that kicked off last week. The brand has already achieved large sales and social media gains from integrations into the tour that include Trainor referring to Lip Smacker while belting out the song “‘Lips Are Movin’”; a logoed Snapchat geofilter available during performances, and an audience sampling program.

“Meghan’s star is rising like crazy, and she’s had an immediate impact,” said Bill George, president and chief operating officer at Markwins. “I’m a huge fan of hers, and I’m a stuffy old dude. She has an amazing message. She really connects with Millennials by talking to them about topics that are relevant to them, and she gets the parent seal of approval as well.”

After Trainor’s first Untouchable show in the U.S. on Saturday in Seattle, Lip Smacker’s e-commerce orders soared 150 percent on Monday from the same day a week ago. The brand also registered a 300 percent increase in traffic to its various social media platforms from Saturday night through Tuesday.

Even before Trainor’s tour, Lip Smacker was on the upswing. Acquired by Markwins last year in a deal for Aspire Brands assets Lip Smacker and Bonne Bell, George reported the brand’s revenues are surging 90 percent week-over-week. Lip Smacker has expanded into retailers such as Claire’s and Kohl’s, and is housed in prominent checkout positions at 4,000 Rite Aid doors, 8,000 Walgreens doors and 4,000 Wal-Mart doors.

“What I thought would happen was maybe a little more moderate, but I knew we would have some immediate success. The opportunities were there. We just had to make sure we didn’t screw them up,” George said. “Lip Smacker had a great following, wonderful products and great flavors. Retailers were kind of frustrated that there didn’t seem to be much investment or care.”

Going forward, George indicated product extensions and innovations will help propel growth at Lip Smacker. “We have to hammer hard on innovation. Everybody speaks about innovation, and I don’t want to just give lip service to it,” he said. “We do a great job with lip balms and sell 15 million lip balms a year, but there are some adjacencies within that category that are relevant to our consumer.”

George will get a break from his brand-building duties on Saturday to attend Trainor’s concert at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. He plans to share his experience at the performance on Snapchat. “I had the opportunity to meet her before we did this, and she’s an amazing person. What you see is what you get. The way it came together with Lip Smacker was so organic and natural. It ties right into the [‘Lips Are Movin’] song,” he said. “It’s going to be a lot of fun to be there.”

    • Heather T on July 20, 2016 at 8:42 PM said:

I wish the LS brand still tried to connect with “millenials”. Or does George not realize millennials by definition includes adults up to 35 years old?

      • Exactly! I’m a millennial, and their partnership with Meghan Trainor doesn’t connect with me at all. I want better quality products, not just partnerships.

        • Amen!!! I don’t care about celebrity endorsements AT ALL! YAWN! Those are for the birds now anyway. Put the money into quality, making flavors 110% authentic. I want to be able to put on a blindfold and know what the flavor is without a doubt, not have to be okay with the half-assed ones they put out nowadays that are remanints of 5 different ones they already make mixed together to create something that doesn’t smell like anything it’s suppose to. OPEN YOUR EYES MARKWINS, SERIOUSLY.

    • Amanda on October 1, 2016 at 2:17 AM said:

I don’t connect with that singer at all. She’s talented but nothing unique in my opinion.I don’t care about some random celebrity endorsing the brand. I want better quality, unique packaging that IS NOT just Frozen revamped or Disney.

  13. By the way, has anyone tried the lanyard party pack with the original flavors? Do they smell okay?

  14. Maria on July 28, 2016 at 5:59 AM said:

I wondered that too Renee cuz if so Ima need to grab a few extra Vanilla, Watermelon, and Strawberry. Does anyone know when Bonne Bell FIRST changed Dr Pepper? The Cherry Pepsi type flavor? I bought a DP PP and the Dr Pepper are all the original one. They say 2012 on them. I know call me crazy but im actually searching for the cherry pepsi type flavor. Anyone have any extra maybe?

  15. Maria on July 31, 2016 at 5:51 PM said:

Whats everyones take on Chocolate Cherry?? Ive been wondering about that one. Renee?? Tanya??

    • Heather T on July 31, 2016 at 5:53 PM said:

Not them but speaking personally I LOVE it, one of my favorite flavors!

    • The Paul Frank Julius’ Chocolate Cherry is amazing and strong, overall a strong flavor, both the cherry and chocolate. Just like the 1970’s one too I might add. It reminds me of a cherry Tootsie Pop.

The Cherry Chocolate from holiday 2013 is basically Cherry Cream Soda mixed with a light cocoa note, similar to the cocoa note in Peppermint Frappe if you have it. I wish they’d of stuck with the original formula for this. It’s good but I agree, it’s way different and a lot lighter than the original Cherry Chocolate.

  16. Maria on July 31, 2016 at 5:53 PM said:

And Tanya u were right , Mango Mix is really good. Im not usually a fan of Mango but this one is yummy.

    • Tanya on August 2, 2016 at 4:47 PM said:

Hi Maria, glad to hear you like it 🙂 As far as Chocolate Cherry goes, I feel like it’s a more mellow cherry. Not too strong, and neither is the chocolate.

  17. Do you think the upcoming holiday Lip Smackers will be any good? I’ve seen that there will be new Tsum Tsums, but I haven’t heard anything about their original sets. Do you their quality has gotten worse or better in the past year? I’m curious what everyone thinks about it.

    • Tanya on August 8, 2016 at 6:43 PM said:

I was just thinking about that last night, and really hoping they’re not all the same flavors from last year with new labels besides a few typical traditional flavors like Gingerbread, Candy Cane, Sugar Plum, etc.

As far as quality, I think some things went up and some went down. I don’t buy the liquid glosses much as it is, and now that those are made in China, I definitely won’t be buying them at all. But as far as the regular balms go, they sure do taste sweeter than the ones made by Bonne Bell.

      • Maria on August 8, 2016 at 8:22 PM said:

Yes the newer balms have a sweet taste to em. With some flavors thats actually better and others not…

    • I REALLY REALLLLLLLLLLLLY want a Snickerdoodle flavor for holiday! Been waiting years for one!!! And at least a cinnamon sugar of some type to make up for the 2014 one, then I’ll be happy. Imagine it in a Biggy too! I wonder if they’ve improved Candy Cane yet. I’d love a roasted nut flavor too!

I’m SO in the mood for fall/holiday flavors and usually am around this time of year!!! It makes me a little sad as Bonne Bell were so creative with their holiday flavors. Who else remembers Cotton Candy Cake, Merry Cherry Candy Cane, Crystal Wintergreen, Sweet Cotton Candy Cane…Pet Pals…need I say more? This will really be the first year it’s all Markwins doing. As long as they’re not made in China then I won’t complain too much. But seriously, SNICKERDOODLE!

  18. I just saw on Instagram someone posted a picture of Marvel (the movies) Lip Smackers. While I’m happy the balm isn’t covered with Disney characters, the Marvel movies are owned by the Disney company (the balms look kinda cheap looking). For crying out loud, when are we going to get the Oatmeal Cookie LS? Where are the original Lip Smacker flavors? You can’t always rely on partnerships for your money.

    • I’m wondering what they’re going to do with the original holiday collection…. I have a feeling it’s going to suck, but I don’t know. I’m happy with them venturing outside of Disney, and while the flavors are repeats, I still want them because I love the flavors.

      • It seems to me like Markwins core strength is cosmetics (foundation, lipstick, nail polish, eyeliner, ect . . .) than flavored lip balms (all the shades of a lipstick will have one scent/flavor in a generic flavor like vanilla, cherry, or cake-scent). Because let’s face it, they don’t have an innovative mind to produce hundreds and hundreds of different flavored balms with authentic flavor. Chocolate, sour apple, or strawberry flavors isn’t very innovative. If I want a strawberry LS then I’ll just buy a strawberry lip smacker instead of a Marvel one. We’re giving them ideas and suggestions, but they’re not listening to us. Or if they are listening to us, then the flavor might not come out this year.

It would be better if they merged LS and Bonne Bell together. That way they can be innovative with all the cosmetic products like their other brands (Wet n Wild and PF which are both growing rapidly). The name could be something like Lip Smacker by Bonne Bell. I’m looking at wet n wild’s lip balms, and they only sell two kinds: a balm stain (all the colors don’t have different flavors or scents) and lip shimmer. PF only has cheek & lip beauty balm. Plus, they could have fun with the packaging and make it sophisticated. Maybe like matte gold rectangular packaging with a magnetic snap complete with a gold letters spelling out LS.

        • Speaking of Bonne Bell cosmetics, what has happened to it exactly? I haven’t seen any new cosmetics from them in a long time and their social media posts haven’t been updated either.

          • I think Markwins took over Bonne Bell cosmetics as well, I see them sold in Kmart and even have a few of their nail polishes and lip glosses which I really like! As far as authentic Bonne Bell products you can get the face care products at Ulta sold under the name Formula 10-0-6 which i also have a couple of those products and like them too.

    • Let’s be honest, Markwins is NOT worried about being the ‘Best Flavor Forever’. Their biggest concern is how can be make a dollar and save a penny even if they have to run their Disney partnership into the ground and even their brand.

Think about flavor innovation this year. Tropicals, Smoothie Chillerz, Wacky flavors and the Minnie tin have been great. Have you gotten a Lip Smacker since Markwins took over and thought ‘wow, this flavor is amazing and smells like its name and I don’t have any other Lip Smacker that smells like this!’? Probably not, as I have used Bonne Bell Lip Smackers for decades and have thought ‘how many times are they going to promote this flavor in the last 2 years’, ‘why does this packaging feel cheaper’ ‘made in CHINA!?’

They are taking the brand 5 steps backwards with flavor authenticity and innovation. I feel sorry for younger generations who don’t understand Bonne Bell made hundreds of strawberry flavors and they weren’t the same one used over and over. They were all well thought out and well done.

They’re so prideful of Tsum Tsums and seem to be putting all of their eggs in that basket and even Disney for that matter. Tsum Tsums are going to be like Beanie Babies, what are they going to do once that ship sails? They’re going to lose a lot of us loyal fans along the way because they don’t listen to our concerns, needs. Seriously, we spoon feed Markwins and they do not listen. The lights are on and no one is home.

      • I agree with everything you’ve said! I miss the days of innovative flavors and collections. I have a feeling that the Lip Smacker brand will be gone as soon as Markwins runs the quality and flavors down so low that no one will buy them.

A little off topic but I bough two smackers from the Smoothie chillerz set and the scents and flavors seem pretty weak. The Smoothie chillerz balms are also supposed to make your lips tingle and with Pineapple splash I got no tingle.Watermelon twist just smells like a weak generic un-nameable fruit but it does tingle slightly. The other two/three? flavors I didn’t buy because they aren’t flavors I typically like.I’m not sure of the names but it was a Banana one and a Mango one and I might be crazy but I remember a Peach one too.
I’m disappointed but frankly I’m getting used to that thanks to Markwins.

    *there

  22. I have 10 of the 15, the Coco Loco and Jamaican me Berry Crazy are the only two ive used and both are strong in scent and tingle… Im curious about My Cherry Amour and Its Bananas.

  23. And I Have to say Sundae Fundae from the Minnie tin isnt something i can recall from Bonne Bell. Its Pistachio like scented/ flavored…Filling in Bonne Bell’s shoes isnt gunna be easy.

    • Like I said above, Markwins’ core strength is cosmetics not lip balms. It will never be lip balms. They’re more innovative with WNW and PF because it’s cosmetics. Foundation, eyeliner, eyeshadow, ect… doesn’t require one to have multiple flavors with authentic taste/scent. With Lip Smackers, they’re taken out of their “comfort zone” from lipstick shades, tinted balms, and lip gloss colors to lip balms. WNW did a lip balm line five years ago and the flavors were run of the mill like strawberry, watermelon, and raspberry. They don’t have the expertise or knowledge to handle a company like this. I don’t even think they have the drive to become innovative.

Also, the whole Disney rebranding and jumping from one movie project to another (Trolls and Marvel. The Marvel balms look cheap) to try and get a buck seem to harken back when Bill George made the statement they would only target the 6-16 year-olds. That’s a red flag right there because what are they doing? Disney (Marvel movies are released by Disney). Disney can be for adults, but the packaging isn’t going to look cutesy. Like Markwins, focus on your core “Lip Smacker” line.

The only company I can think of who could handle a company like this would be Burts Bees or (out of the cosmetics sector) Yankee Candle (if they’re interested in expanding to lip balms).

What I don’t understand is why Markwins bought LS and BB to begin with.

      • I can only think of one reason: MONEY. They probably thought they could make a few bucks selling flavored lip balms to children. I wouldn’t be surprised if they begin to completey mimic Lotta Luv (most of their lip balms are candy, soda, or flavors with different cartoon characters on them like Spongebob) and just strictly come out with lip balms that are parterships with different brands. I can see them making various Disney-themed Christmas sets that are made in China just to cash in on the makeup stocking gifts.

I just got Dumbo PB shake. I actually really like it! I’m picking up on a peanut butter flavor.

I really don’t like Jamaican Me Berry Crazy. It has a medicinal scent to me.

  25. Coco Loco has a medicinal minty scent to me. It tingles big time. But i wish it was more Coconut. Like the “Coconut Snowball” from the FROZEN collection.

    • Coco Loco was terribly executed. I could see mint and coconut going together if it was a creamy mint but honestly the flavor makes no sense. Not even enjoyable for me and I like far out flavors.

      • I think watermelon twist is a LOT worse. It has this body odor note in it that ruins it for me.

        • I actually like that one but I can see why people don’t love it. Smells like watermelon lemonade and just like the Bath & Body Works candle.

I don’t like the tingle of the Smoothie Chillerz.

  27. Hows Mango Madness? Or Honeydew Kiwi? I havent opened any of the others I have yet. I agree A I think Jamaican me Berry crazy smells like a sour patch as well.

  28. Wasnt there a Peach Smoothie Chiller? Anyone?? And I been thinking, The Orange Vanilla one is prolly good. I didnt get that one.

    • Elizabeth on August 21, 2016 at 10:09 AM said:

Yes, there’s a peach one. It’s tastes just like regular LS Peach with the tingle that Smoothie Chillerz have. It’s one of the better Chillerz that I’ve tried. My favorites are My Cherry Amour and Watermelon Twist.

I want them to make a Flounder Tsum-Tsum Lip Smacker!

  29. Id love the Peach Smoothie Chiller than. Gunna need to get that soon, thanks. I have Cherry Amour and Watermelon Twist. Havent used em yet. Aww a Flounder Tsum Tsum would be adorable. Altho I REALLY like Dumbo. Still havent seen it in stores yet. Think I may check Rite Aid again.

  30. Whats everyone think of the “Roll-it” Lipglosses??

    • They’re good. A few of mine have got cloudy. They aren’t as thick as the Roll-On Shiners were unfortunately.

Who else is on pins and needles about fall/holiday this year!?! Love this time of the year…so many (hopefully) new Smackers headed our way!!!

      • I sure am! I just have a gut feeling it’s going to be Disney overload with a crappy original collection.

        • *Sigh* Hopefully your wrong Renee. This time of year is always so fun for Lipsmackers.

          • I concur, I hope you’re wrong lol. I think they’re focusing more on Marvel than Disney characters.

      • I have all the Roll it flavors. So far ive only opened the Bubble gUm which is really yummy. Anyone have Dr Pepper? Whats it like?

        • Love Bubble Gum and Vanilla! DP is the terrible generic formula they’ve been using. Smells like a spiced cherry. I know some like this new one but I can not! The original DP was perfect in every way, so I will not accept anything lesser.

    • I love them! I agree that they’re not as good as the old ones but better than none at all.

  31. They have a ton of “new” 4 packs at Walgreens. They had a princess collection.a cake collection.an inside out collection.a mickey halloween collection.a Mickey SPF collection and the frozen SPF collection.
They basically just repackaged old collections just so that they would have the updated company info. The only thing I hate about the new packaging is that they don’t put the names of all the LS on the side OR back of the packaging.
I was looking at some different 4 packs and I had to shake them to roll the LS around enough for me to read their names.
I bought the cake collection which includes:
Coconut cake.Strawberry shortcake. The red velvet from the cupcakes collection.Angel food cake.
The new packaging of old collections made me a bit curious so I took a closer look at the LS and I have something weird to report.
3 out of 4 came from CA.Alright everything normal so far right?
Well this is where it gets weird my angel food cake….is from Westlake,OH.Is Markwins repackaging old collections so that they can sneak some old balms into them?
Has this happened to anyone else?

  32. They’re not new, it’s just Markwins getting rid of inventory. I’ve seen some on this same display with 3-4 are all the same flavor, which is why they didn’t put flavors on the sides or back, so even they didn’t know what they were putting in them. The way they were carelessly packaged tells me they are just getting rid of inventory. These look like something you’d find at Big Lots rather than Walgreens but I’m glad I got to stock up on the vintage flavors.

    • I haven’t found these packs anywhere yet! Are they only sold at Walgreens? My local one doesn’t have them.

      • I’ve found them at several Walgreens now. Make sure you check all over the store they seem to stick them in a display anywhere they have room.

  33. I miss the days when this blog was more active. It makes me sad that there’s not much of an announcement of holiday Lip Smacker flavors either.

    • I’m with you. I’ll have a post about this soon. Sorry, I can’t help with the holiday ones though, I have no idea…

      • I’m so happy to hear from you! I hope you’re doing okay.

I don’t blame you for the latter because the only social media website that Lip Smacker has shown sneak peeks is on Snapchat, which I don’t understand. I think they should have sneak peeks on all of their social media accounts instead of just one.

  34. I was on my LS account and noticed that they have Stellar Strawberry.

  35. Hey Bunny Cookie, I found a couple sneak peek photos on Instagram. Is it okay if I DM them to you? I don’t know how active you are on your Instagram account.
