2015 is shaping up to be a flavorful year with a lot of surprises, and I’m happy to say the Inside Out smackers continue that trend! I’ll admit to being a bit shocked by how much I like the set. I bet this is a hugely popular collection.

This is a good mix of old and new flavors, which means long-time LS fans will see a few repeats. Still, the flavors are well chosen to match the characters and so we’re not seeing generic repeats thrown in.

inside-out-lipsmackersPictured: Blues ‘n Berry, I’scream Shake, OutRAGEous Cinnamon, Sour Raspberries, Berry Happy

There are two stand-outs in this collection that I think most of us are excited for: Blues ‘n Berry & OutRAGEous Cinnamon.

These flavors are so awesome that it’d be heartbreaking if they were done wrong, but LS did it. These are good. Real talk: the various blueberry formulas have been awful for years now, but Blues ‘n Berry is the closest to the original they’ve gotten.

And OutRAGEous Cinnamon? It’s just strong enough to live up to its namesake, though it is closer to cinnamon bears than red hots. I should note that it has a color tint, very similar to Dr Pepper but pinker. Might be a disappointment for some since they are otherwise gender neutral. Anyway, it’s accurate, and I’m a little obsessed with it!

What do you guys think?

252 Thoughts on “Inside Out – a smacker hit

  1. I’m waiting for mine to be delivered via FedEx. Very excited to hear about Cinnamon! There’s a list of cinnamon flavors they need to do! To me cinnamon bears and Red Hots are they same kind of flavor, how do you think they differ? I’m expecting an almost Fireball (yes, the liquor) kind of cinnamon from this, which to me is similar to the candies as well..
Curious about Sour Raspberries- does it have a sour element to it? Is it noticeably different than Red Raspberry? Also, I read in another post that Berry Happy is similar to Ice Pop which is that Frozen Lemonade flavor they’ve been using for EVERYTHING! Ugh…does it at least have a berry note to it? Like a berry lemonade?
I will post my thoughts whenever I get mine.

    • Cinnamon bears are sweeter/lighter to me than red hots, so I feel it’s a more accurate description.

Not really picking up on a sour element in the raspberry one unfortunately. Berry Happy seems to be just lemonade to me… or at least it’s too overwhelming to tell. They’re all basically duplicates.

Bunny Cookie, were you able to find yours in stores or online? If you did find them in a store, which one was it and what part of the store was it located?

        • Lip Smackers are no longer carried in my area. I now order online or luck out with friends who are in Ohio (lots more LS in some stores out there. It’s anyone outside of that radius that gets screwed)…even that is becoming impossible though.

  2. Also wondering if you found them in stores and what state you’re from.

I’m in Ohio about 10 mins from Westlake. So you can def still find them in Rite Aid, Kmart and Walmart. Haven’t checked Walgreens yet but I will. Rite Aid here says it could be a week or even months before they get a new product from Lipsmacker but they did have the trios pretty quick.

As I said on the Pink Lemonade post this afternoon, “Joy” is like “Ice Pop” or “Frozen Lemonade”….”Outrageous Cinnamon” is def like u described A (Red Hot, atomic Fireball, candle type flavor) very good.Tinted. “Sour Raspberries” is very close to Red raspberry, which is ok cause I like that flavor. “Blues n Berry” is pretty close to the original, very good. “I scream” is exactly like Vanilla Frosting. I have used up half a tube of Vanilla Frosting already wth 3 backups so Id definitely recognize this one. Overall A+ Lipsmacker. Altho I noticed mine say Westlake,Ohio on them. According to their Facebook page they have moved to California. Odd. I found mine on Ebay from a seller I frequently buy from. She let me know as soon as she got them in. 🙂

    • Yup, several duplicate flavors. Blueberry and cinnamon definitely make up for that. I have to say the only one I am a bit disappointed in is Sour Raspberries. Wish they’d kick it up a notch and really do sour for once.

      • Maria on June 25, 2015 at 5:29 AM said:

I’m not disappointed in Sour Raspberries as I really like Red Raspberry but I agree a real true sour would be nice. I LOVED the sponge on sour ones. I’m more of a balm fan but those were awesome! Wish they would bring em back.

  4. Stef on June 25, 2015 at 8:54 AM said:

I just ordered them off LS website and I’m glad at seeing the amazing reviews. Too bad the sour raspberry isn’t that sour, but that’s alright, at least the other flavors are great. Can’t wait to get mine.

I don’t think I’d like the cinnamon if it were too hot. I hate fireballs.

  7. I really enjoy the online selection from lip smackers. I talked with their customer service the other day and they said that the Inside Out flavors wont be in stores until at least July 1st. So I went ahead and bought them online and also found many flavors I didn’t even know existed. Everyone should go check it out

SORRY! I meant to put the comment here.

I got my packs today! I like this set. I’m dissapointed with joy and disgust. Those could have been more unique.

Fear- its a mix of tea party treats and buttercream frosting.
Anger- its like red hots candy minus the heat, just the nice cinnamon sweet flavor.
    Disgust- red raspberry dupe
Joy- close to ice pop maybe more lemony. I don’t pick up any berry notes.
    Sadness- pure blueberry flavor

It’s not even an accurate description of the name! They should’ve at least added a berry flavor to it. LOL Fear is really good. It’s super sweet so I’m always tempted to lick it all off my lips.

Can someone tell me what the Minnie Mouse Cutie Pie flavor tastes like? Thanks!

    • Renee on June 29, 2015 at 5:06 PM said:

I don’t know about a Minnie Mouse cutie pie Lip Smacker, but I have the Daisy Duck version. It smells like a sweet berry pie. It’s different than the berry pie shimmer Lip Smacker, which barely has any pie scent at all. I recommend it if you like sweet pie flavors.

  12. hey guys. just heard from lipsmacker that they have new items on the website. They are from the Disney movie The Descendants. There is 6 new flavors in there! I think its under Disney page on the website

    • Renee on July 2, 2015 at 7:14 PM said:

It is! Only 4 of the 6 flavors have a pic of them. They sound like redos of other flavors.

  13. yaaa you are right. But I always like to get new ones and see how they are because sometimes they aren’t exactly like other ones

  14. Celeste on July 2, 2015 at 8:31 PM said:

I don’t like the Descendants ones. I don’t even know what that is and I don’t want flavors that I already have with some teenage girl on them. At least the In and Out ones are cute, even though they are childish.

    • Thank you! I am so disappointed that it’s going in this direction. I do NOT want some random kids face on my beauty products! Ew!

      • Celeste on July 2, 2015 at 9:38 PM said:

        • Celeste on July 2, 2015 at 9:46 PM said:

Okay, I do, but don’t want any on my lip balms! LOL

          • Renee on July 2, 2015 at 10:11 PM said:

I think the Descendants Lip Smackers look as cheesy as the movie sounds. I don’t mind Disney Lip Smackers, but NOT Disney CHANNEL Lip Smackers! Oh man, imagine if they did that when Hannah Montana was popular.

    • Stef on July 2, 2015 at 8:37 PM said:

the Descendants is some stupid Disney Channel movie about the descendants of the evil and good characters of their movies. The IMDB page is practically pulverizing the idea and the characters and the plot holes. I even think it’s a musical.

Ugh, I don’t mind one or two Disney collections for movies or such, but please stop it already. Even the other companies like MAC and E.L.F. just had it for a limited time, not as a permanent collection.

  15. Stef on July 2, 2015 at 8:43 PM said:

Here’s a brief: present-day idyllic kingdom where the benevolent teenage son of King Adam and Queen Belle offers a chance of redemption for the trouble making offspring of Disney’s classic villains: Cruella De Vil (Carlos), Maleficent (Mal), the Evil Queen (Evie) and Jafar (Jay).

  16. Stef on July 3, 2015 at 8:08 AM said:

It was actually written on the wall. They posted on the Facebook page of LS the Descendants trailer and I thought it was queer. Well, here we have it. Another thought came to me to when they posted on instagram a pic of Star Wars backpacks at Claire’s. God, I hope they don’t do Star Wars lip balms or something like that.

    • Celeste on July 3, 2015 at 8:28 AM said:

That would be the worse! I definitely am not buying these or anything else in the future similar to these.

      • Celeste on July 4, 2015 at 10:49 PM said:

        • Renee on July 5, 2015 at 12:15 AM said:

Actually, I wouldn’t mind Star Wars Lip Smackers. I think it would be kind of cool.

  17. Celeste on July 3, 2015 at 8:27 AM said:

Renee, the reason they didn’t do Hanna Montana back then was because those were the good ole’ lip smacker days where they were more original and unique. Now they are becoming basic like lotta luv and other generic lip balms that promote stuff like One Direction. Back then they were still following the direction that bell had set for the company (although he passed away about 1 year before Hannah Montana made it to TV).

  18. I hate to say it but I think you guys were a little too generous about OutRAGEous Cinnamon- it smells nothing like cinnamon candy to me, more like a holiday spice scent, which leaves it to be very generic. Cinnamon candy to me if more sweet- not saying anyone was wrong, we all interpret scents differently but I still imagined it to be way better. I do like the Blues ‘n Berry. I get a fresh and fruity blueberry note with a note reminiscent of the original Blueberry after it sits. Sour Raspberries DOES have the sour taste that all the sours have, almost like they add citric acid to the formula, BUT it is Red Raspberry renamed. I do feel like there is a subtle berry note in Berry Happy but the overwhelming lemon makes it unnoticeable. I’ll say it again- I’m really over this new lemon formula. It almost smells like citronella. I’m all for the Lemon Drop type lemons.

Yes- Descendants, serisiously?! They are using Disney to carry the brand. It’s annoying, of course I will buy because there’s a marshmallow but seriously. It makes me want to abandon any Disney type product they make and buy quadruples of any original stuff they bring out. The packaging is definitely a new low brought to us by Markwins. I can’t imagine many know who these teenagers are randomly on Lip Smackers.
Partnerships make sense because it creates brand awareness, but other than Paul Frank, which was very good lifestyle brand to partner with-very fitting, trendy but not a brand that’s mass produced or easily attainable which made it fun. To be honest I never knew much about Paul Frank before the partnership. A Starbucks partnership is very fitting for the brand, at least the expectation Bonne Bell set for the brand and would be a great way for some old fans to get reconnected to the brand. Coca Cola was a huge and fitting move for the brand as well, so Starbucks just seems right. Flavor partnerships make sense because the brand is known for accuracy and authenticity of making formulas that are uncanny to their counterparts. I really hope Markwins can keep this up.

    • Renee on July 3, 2015 at 12:15 PM said:

I don’t want it to be all about Disney. I don’t mind Disney Princesses, Mickey Mouse, or other Disney Pixar characters, but I draw the line at Disney Channel stuff. I understand that they’re trying to target young people, but that keeps them from getting the older fans to purchase their products. I like their original Lip Smacker designs better than the Disney ones myself. I still have my buttercream frosting Lip Smacker from the Christmas of 2013 and I was recently admiring the beautiful colors on the label. I hope they make Lip Smackers with original designs for the holidays.

    • Celeste on July 4, 2015 at 1:50 PM said:

I would LOVE a starbucks lipsmacker! I’d buy the whole set if they were to do that. I loved the Paul Frank ones. I have almost every flavor. The packaging is cute and uniques and the flavors are unique and delicios.

  19. I agree. I absolutely LOVE original packaging and have been loving the quads that have been changing out, the Donuts, Sundae, Cake Pops, Ice Cream Dreams and hope they keep going. I’m assuming the Oatmeal Cookie is going to be in a new set in continuation of these. Something about new flavors in original packaging makes them so much more valuable and collectible to me, moreso than Disney.

    • Renee on July 3, 2015 at 2:29 PM said:

Exactly. That’s what makes them stand out, so they need to emphasize it. It would be cool if they came out with a cookie set- oatmeal cookie, chocolate chip cookie, white chocolate macadamia nut cookie, triple chocolate cookie, and snickerdoodles.

  20. Tanya on July 3, 2015 at 3:43 PM said:

Oh boy! I haven’t been able to comment for a while and there’s so much to say! First, the Inside Out Lip Smackers sound great, but I’ve gone to like 5 Walgreens and 3 Wal-Marts and can’t find them anywhere. So, I guess I’ll just order online. Infact, I wish they would just put all the flavors online so I don’t have to go on wild goose chases looking for them all (although that can be fun at times).

Second, I saw The Descendants ones and my first reaction was ew! Why?! I don’t know why, but pictures of real people on my beauty products really bother me and I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels this way. I rather have cartoons, cutesy artwork or just plain labels.

And Third, as much as I really liked the Villain set last year for Halloween, why can’t they make a Halloween FLAVOR themed set like they had years ago? Stuff like Candy Corn, Caramel Apple, Spiced Cider, etc. I know some flavors would be repeats, but I’d be ok with it if the packaging just screamed Halloween when you look at it. You know, like orange and black with pictures of cartoony ghosts, witches, spiders, etc.

    • Renee on July 3, 2015 at 7:58 PM said:

YES! There should be a REAL Halloween set with ghost, ghouls, and fun stuff. It would be silly if they made flavors like blood orange (and make the balm look blood red), candy brains (put zombies on the label), etc. I think they could be a LOT more creative with their flavors and packaging.

      • Celeste on July 4, 2015 at 1:43 PM said:

I totally agree with both of you! I hate having basic generic Disney Channel kids on my cosmetics so I won’t buy that trash. I miss th old Halloween set like the one where they did Witches Brew and a Popcorn ball flavor with really cute designs. Now it all has to be Disney stuff. If they keep this up, I’m going to stop buying them, enjoy my collection and remember lip smackers for how they used to be. The marketing for their products is terrible.

        • Renee on July 4, 2015 at 3:06 PM said:

You could always order the old ones if you ever want more.

          • Stef on July 4, 2015 at 5:05 PM said:

Yup, same thing here Celeste. This whole Disney thing is trying my patience and loyalty to the brand because I’m so sick of seeing all that other stuff. Look at what other brands do like MAC and E.L.F. They have a collection of Disney for a limited time only and the packaging is sophisticated. It’s like they said, “Ok, adults, you liked (so and so Disney movie) well, you can enjoy the nostalgia again with our new collection.” And the best thing, it doesn’t look childish and it’s not a permanent line in their products.

If Markwins continues with this Disney or whatever else in 2016 and the regular LS is so-so, I’m really at the end of my line with the brand and company. I don’t know whether it would be good if I did get to the end to stop buying period because after all, that’s how the company got so desperate to begin with. It’s basically like a double-edged sword: if I stop supporting the company, they’ll still increase the Disney. If I do buy it and the company sees profits rise and hits highs even higher than it was at peak, then the company can say, “well, all this Disney stuff is working, Let’s continue it.”

Now, if I or any of us ran the company, we’d be so much better than those other people.

          • Celeste on July 4, 2015 at 7:00 PM said:

Yeah, but they are expensive when you include the shipping and most of the time the flavor is dull. 🙁 I did buy a Christmas trio with the original lip smacker design a couple of months ago and have it for collection, not use.

  21. Kelsey on July 4, 2015 at 11:37 AM said:

Ick. The Descendents flavors don’t even look like Lip smackers.

  22. Celeste on July 4, 2015 at 7:06 PM said:

I was replying to Renee in the last comment, Stef. I do like how MAC does the limited edition cartoon stuff. If they continue like this, then their sales are just going to decrease year after year and Lip Smackers will eventually go out of business forever. I wish any of us worked for the company, if we did then lip smackers would be a lot better for sure. LOL
I would never have gotten rid of the pet pals. They were a holiday tradition! I would even have sold small pet pals plush dolls to go with a lip smacker set.

    • Renee on July 4, 2015 at 7:53 PM said:

That’s one of the best ways to get children to buy Lip Smackers. Make something cute and unique. That’s what Lip Smackers used to be years ago, and lots of kids convinced their parents to buy them.

      • Celeste on July 4, 2015 at 10:33 PM said:

Yes, they should’ve stayed on that same marketing plan. They probably thought keeping an ongoing Disney partnership would be a good business move because Disney would pay them well. But like Stef said they allowed Disney to carry thier brand. I think they became too targetted towards young children and people got bored with it because they lack innovation. It doesn’t seem like these people ever took any business classes or have common business sense.

  23. Celeste on July 4, 2015 at 10:46 PM said:

The product has so much potential and brand recognition. Its part of the childhood of so many kids. Its should have been a global product by now. Its crazy how they can’t even get stores to carry it. Great product, but bad business dealings.

  29. Hi guys, I’ve been trying to get a vanilla biggy for some time now. I called LS customer service and they informed me that they wont be getting them for some time and they only have like 3 left of the normal size vanilla. But I was browsing on the website and saw that they have a Swarovski Crystal Vanilla Biggy for sale….. Its 250 bucks. I really want it, but I don’t know if its worth it. But it is also a one of a kind collectors item. What should I do????

You know, if they’re going to go the route of making lip glosses with cartoon characters on them, they should make Adventure Time or Steven Universe collections for example. It would be cool if they made a Jewel Lip/Steven Universe type collection with the Crystal Gems on the label and a gem on top. I think that would be better than some of the Disney stuff.

I recommend getting them. If you like vanilla lip smackers, then you’ll love vanilla cream soda. Black cherry is one of my favorite flavors! It reminds me of some kind of lollipop candy but I can’t place it.

OOh, I just got the cinnamon and I love it. It does indeed have a glow of color to it, a jewel-like red, and smells and tastes divine. I have been looking for a cinnamon-candy lip pomade since I was a TEEN!

  41. So after all this time, I finally got around to ordering these and I really like them! I’m really surprised so many people don’t seem to like Berry Happy. To me it smells just like raspberry lemonade, which I love! I have to agree that Sour Raspberries didn’t smell sour at all, but then again, I’ve only smelled it and not worn it yet.

I also bought 2 of the Descendants Lip Smackers (please don’t throw tomatoes at me 😉 ). I bought Evie-Baked Muffin and Malevolent Chocolate. I think Malevolent Chocolate smells very, very similar to White Chocolate Lemon. Evie-Baked Muffin smells like a soft caramel with a hint of cinnamon. I really like it, which is surprising since I usually like much stronger scents.

  42. I FINALLY found this at Kmart! I like all of the flavors except for berry happy. It isn’t terrible, but I’m tired of this weird lemon flavor they’ve been making and labeling it as different flavors.

Am I the only one that thinks outrageous cinnamon smells like a cinnamon spice candle? Also, sour raspberries smells like past red raspberry/raspberry flavors from previous collections, which is both good and bad. On one hand, I love how it smells, but on the other hand, it isn’t accurate to its name. I do like how i’scream shake smells like vanilla frosting. I think it’s better than other shake flavors. I was hoping blues ‘n berry would smell more like the blueberries n cream swirl Lip Smacker from a few years ago, but it’s okay.

  43. I finally found these at my Target a few weeks ago, and now I’ve already managed to lose the blueberry flavor which i absolutely loved, almost as much as the original blueberry!!
